Let me first take you through the Cathay Platinum Suite review and then followed by The Fault In Our Stars (TFIOS) review.
This was my first time entering the platinum suite. I heard of it before but never really took the time to read through it.
Since TFIOS is an anticipated movie, I knew the general tickets would be sold out fast. So I checked in to the Platinum Suite, which is located in the corner of Cathay Cineplex Jem.
The entrance is like a hotel lounge. The first thing you'll see when you enter the suite is the counter. The seating area in the lounge is spacious. There's magazines, tv, ipad and free wifi. They even gave me a complimentary umbrella!
You can purchase your tickets over the counter like what I did. Ticket cost $28 for weekdays and probably $30 during ph and weekends. Online booking will be $2 more.
Once they made an announcement for the seating, I took the lift to the sixth floor (their cinema is one level up)
The cinema seats were deserted. There's only me and two other couples. The seats are meant for two people. I seat in between the two couples like one of them is infront of me and another behind me. I felt safe.
As I went alone, I placed my bag, gadgets and umbrella on the seat beside me.
The concierge attended to us before the movie started, asking for our orders and whether we want a blanket. They only accept mastercard or cash for the menu payment.
I ordered the salted caramel popcorn ($6.00) and mineral water ($5.00). Their caramel corn tasted heavenly and so does the Evian mineral water lol.
I asked for a blanket too obviously. It is so comfortable and soft I snuggled in it throughout the movie!
Their seats are like reclining sofas, you can adjust it to your own preference. I reclined it all the way down so basically I'm like lying on a bed. Comfy!
The seat comes with a concierge bell, a lamp, a side table and a moveable food tray. Talk about first class! After some trailers and advertisements, it's time for TFIOS!
Okay the movie was a mixed of feelings and emotions. I read the novel three times before hand and imagined how every scenes will be like.
Sadly, most of the parts in the book wasn't acted out and some of the scenes in the movie is different from the book. I think this was to make the movie short and relevant.
There was quite a lot of kissing, making out and heavy breathing (from Hazel) which made me really uncomfortable.
I have a high expectation for the movie seeing that I actually cried while reading the book.
I expected myself to be emotional throughout the movie, but sadly I didn't.
I only cried during three scenes,
(1) when Augustus was in pain outside the petrol kiosk and called Hazel for help.
(2) when Hazel got to know Gus' death and cried really hard
(3) When Hazel read the letter Gus wrote for Peter Van Houten (ending)
And that's about it.
I think one of the main flaws in the movie is that Gus' character wasn't given much attention and focus that when he died, no one really felt the lost except for the readers.
The novel really described and emphasised Gus' emotions, well being and character really detailed, thus the readers felt connected to Gus and felt the lost when he died.
But overall I really love the movie! It was as good as the novel but with little flaws here and there. The emotions and feels were real! Plus I got to watch it in first class. How awesome is that!
The casts were brilliant. I fall in love with each and every one of them.
On a final note; I rate this movie 8/10 I will be watching it again real soon definitely!
You should go and watch it with your loved ones and really understand the depth and meaning of love.
